This Story Might Save Your Life Book Club Guide + Review (A Suspenseful, Podcast-Lover’s Dream)

I have a thing for podcast + book mashups.

Like… if a story even hints at behind-the-scenes media, storytelling layers, or that “you’re listening in on something you shouldn’t be” energy—I’m in. Immediately.

So when I picked up This Story Might Save Your Life by Tiffany Crum, I already knew it had potential.

What I didn’t expect?
To be in a full vice grip from the start.

🎧 First—If You’re Even Considering Audio… Do It

I have to say this upfront because it completely elevated the experience for me:

The audiobook version of this is SO good.

The characters already feel like you’re listening in on something intimate, but hearing it performed makes it even more immersive. The pacing, the tension, the subtle shifts in tone—it all just hits.

And it’s narrated by the one and only Julia Whelan, which honestly tells you everything you need to know.

📖 My Review (no spoilers)

From the very beginning, I was in.

The first half of this book?
Obsessed. Could not stop. Fully in a chokehold.

The character development is what really makes this story stand out. Benny and Joy feel so real, layered, and complicated in a way that makes you care—and I absolutely adored both the MMC and FMC. Their dynamic, their history, the way everything unfolds… it just works.

The second half does slow down a bit compared to the first, but here’s the thing:
I still loved it.

Which honestly just tells you how much I loved the first half. It set the bar that high.

This is one of those books where you’re not just following the plot—you’re constantly re-evaluating what you think you know.

⚠️ Quick Note Before You Read

Check your trigger warnings on this one—especially for domestic violence.

It’s handled as part of the story, but it’s definitely something to be aware of going in.

🎧 The Vibe

This book feels like:

  • binging a podcast you can’t turn off
  • texting your friend “ARE YOU READING THIS???”
  • being slightly suspicious of everyone
  • needing to talk about it immediately after finishing

It’s gripping, layered, and just fun to read.
